We’d all like to reduce or eliminate our reliance on gasoline for a variety of reasons. In spite of great strides in emissions reductions, gasoline engines are still a major factor in air pollution. America’s appetite for oil from distant countries plays a large role in our economic and foreign relations policies. Switching to a form of energy that could be created in the United States could only improve the situation. These are laudable goals, and it’s good to see Americans thinking of long-term goals that will be good for the country as a whole. Many people are even willing to pay a little more than necessary to help achieve these goals, but there is a limit. Alternative forms of energy won’t really gather long-lasting momentum until they become cost effective for the majority of consumers. Continue Reading »

The Britt’s call them Landys, but in the US we call them by their God-Given name, Land Rovers. As the name suggests, these super duty, all terrain vehicles come from a long lineage of rugged explorers that could trek through mud, cross flooded paths and even climb mountains with ease. It’s a little heartbreaking that the Land Rovers cruising the American terrain today are reserved only for expeditions to covered parking lots, soccer games and jaunts to the grocery store. Even their look has changed, once comprised of iron, grit and a collection of smashed bugs in the grill, the modern day versions have evolved into sleek and highly manicured purebreds. However there is still something ruggedly handsome about the Land Rover. Perhaps it’s large front bumper that rests below the double bar grill with the signature honeycomb design. Or the distinctive perforated side vents and wide wheel base that add to the Land Rover’s athletic appearance. Continue Reading »
Toyota has recently launched the largest recall in its history with over 4 million Toyota and Lexus models identified with potential safety issues. Last fall the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration received a flurry of reports that driver’s side floor mats were dislodging and causing the accelerator pedal to get stuck. The problem received national attention when a highway patrol officer and his family were killed. The officer’s Lexus crashed after traveling over 120mph as a result of a stuck gas pedal. Apparently the vehicle could not be stopped by the brakes alone. Toyota responded by issuing a safety alert recommending that Toyota and Lexus owners remove the driver’s side floor mats and not replace them until Toyota could investigate the matter further. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration also issued an alert in which they strongly urged owners of these vehicles to remove mats or other obstacles that could lead to unintended acceleration. The models with potential safety issues are: Continue Reading »

The Mustang GT has had a 5.0 liter engine in its bay for almost 30 years. It was only in 1996 that Ford went with the 4.6L engine. Since the Mustang was redesigned in 2010, not much has changed on the outside; but a lot has changed under the hood. Continue Reading »

The Ford Fiesta has not been available in American since 1976. This ultra-practical and somewhat boring little vehicle was underappreciated here and therefore discontinued. Ford did find success with the Fiesta in Europe where new models have been rolling off of the assembly line for over 3 decades. Given the large span of time, continuous improvements and some radically innovative technology, Ford is willing to try their luck with the Fiesta here again in 2010. Continue Reading »

Ford returns to the top of the Automotive World with the Ford Fusion. Voted Motor Trend’s Car of the Year; Ford has reclaimed title after an 8 year hiatus. Ford decided to take a page out of the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry handbook; which have been the best selling cars in the mid-sized segment for the last few years. The Fusion’s main reason for winning the Motor Trend COTY is the flexibility. While the Fusion has been around since 2006, it was not until this year that Ford totally redesigned the car top to bottom, and without any bailout money from the government. The Ford Fusion scored incredibly well on six different categories such as: function, engineering, efficiency, design, safety, and value. Continue Reading »
